Twelve teams. Twelve games. Six weeks. This past season’s winter dodgeball had new teams, new faces, returning champs, dodgeball veterans, great attitudes, tons of fun, and awesome happy hours at Little Woodrow’s after the games! Here’s a rundown of what happened this past season at the Northwest Rec Center!
Week One
Week one was off to a great start. There were a ton of familiar faces and a few new faces ready to show off their dodgeball skills. Even more impressive was the social aspect of the night, with all the teams hanging out, welcoming each other back from the holiday break, and welcoming the newcomers to the club.
The game of the evening went to Lords of Dodgetown versus The Untouchaballs in the 8 o’clock game. With time restraints tight, and the timer quickly ticking away, Lords of Dodgetown took home their second win of the night in an epic sudden death overtime. Lords of Dodgetown beat The Untouchaballs 4-3!

Week Two
Brian’s Smoked Placentas started off a little rusty against One Ball To Rule Them All by giving up two rounds to the returning champions. However, after a little warm up, in their typical style, Brian’s Smoked Placentas came back to knock One Ball To Rule Them All down 4-2 for the win!
Another great game that evening was Kylee’s Team against the Purple Cobras in a strong match up! Both teams have a lot of new players but also a handful of key players with notable athleticism too. After a back and forth battle the Cobras pulled away for the win in the seventh round, winning 4-3!

Week Three
One of the last games of the evening on week three, Dirty Dodgers versus Dodgy Style, earned the title, “The Game of the Night!” Both teams were just having a great time! It was a free-for-all on the court. Both teams were just throwing at each other, laughing, enjoying their selves, and played without a care! Dodgy Style took it away with a 4-0 win!
Honorable mention goes to the game against Kylee’s Team and Lords of Dodgetown. Their game was the most competitive of the evening. Both teams were feisty and evenly-matched, skill wise. Kylee’s Team fought hard against Lords of Dodgetown, but ended the night with a loss, 2-4.

Week Four
The game of the evening featured the Purple Cobras against Dirty Dodgers. Purple Cobras knocked out Dirty Dodgers 4-1, but despite the score, it was a great game all around! Both teams played hard and thoroughly enjoyed playing against each other. There were a lot of laughs and tons goofing off! Both of the teams’ camaraderie really helped set the tone of the game. Though not a top team yet, Purple Cobras are a fierce competitor with the right attitude. They play fair, they have fun, and they try their hardest!

Week Five
Week five’s game of the night went to Lords of Dodgetown and One Ball To Rule Them All. These two teams just couldn’t knock each other out in a clean sweep. Lords of Dodgetown would obliterate One Ball To Rule Them All in one round, and One Ball To Rule Them All would do the same to Lords of Dodgetown in the next one! There was one round where One Ball To Rule Them All was left with only one guy on the court. He systematically took down the four remaining players on Lords of Dodgetown to win that round! Unfortunately, One Ball To Rule Them All didn’t have enough tricks up their sleeve to keep the momentum. They fell to Lords of Dodgetown 4-3!

Week Six
The last night of the regular season before playoffs, and as to be expected, there were many exciting games worth mentioning!
First up, we had the Purple Cobras facing off against the Ballcoholics. The still-new-to-dodgeball Cobras were up 3 to 1 before the Ballcoholics decided they had enough losing. The Ballcoholics made an amazing comeback from what should have been a game ending deficit. Ballcoholics came back to win 4-3!
Next, we had Fervent Gesticulation going rounds with One Ball To Rule Them All. Although One Ball To Rule Them All is the returning champion from the former season, they faced low odds of victory against Fervent Gesticulation, who have been a notoriously tough team to beat. Fervent Gesticulation must have been asleep for half the game because One Ball To Rule Them All dominated in the first three rounds! Finally, Fervent Gesticulation decided they were ready to play. They fought hard and won the next 4 rounds against One Ball for the overall win and subsequently keeping their perfect record!
Lastly, Dodgy Style went up against Lords Of Dodgetown in an comeback for the night! Lords of Dodgetown have been an unpredictable team this season, unlike Dodgy Style, who have lost 66% of their games. In this particular game, the Lords of Dodgetown were down 3-1 and realized they were on their way to adding another loss to their record. Lords of Dodgetown eventually rallied and came out on top with the win, 4-3!

Playoffs
The top four teams met at playoffs in the semi-finals to duke it out for the championship title! In the single elimination rounds, Fervent Gesticulation played against One Ball to Rule Them All, and Brian’s Smoked Placenta’s faced the Lords of Dodgetown. It was a close game between Fervent Gesticulation and One Ball to Rule Them All. Fervent Gesticulation was down 3 to 0, but was able to turn it around for themselves and not give the reigning champs the opportunity to defend their title. Fervent Gesticulation advanced to the finals, 4-3! Brian’s Smoked Placentas blew Lords of Dodgetown out of the water, 4-0, in the semi-finals and also advanced to battle it out for the championship against Fervent Gesticulation!
The final round in the playoffs came and went just as soon as it started! It seemed as if Brian’s Smoked Placentas finally found their groove! Similar to their game in the semi-finals, the Placentas smoked Fervent Gesticulation in an easy game, 4-0! Congratulations, Brian’s Smoked Placentas!
After all the games, and especially on playoff night, all of the teams made their way to Little Woodrow’s off Burnet. There was never a week where the Austin Sports and Social Club dodgeballers didn’t show up to represent! Little Woodrow’s runs special happy hour prices just for ASSC players when you show up in your game shirt! The current happy hour specials are $2 Dollar Bud Light drafts and $8 Bud Light pitchers!
