Pitch Count: 8s vs 8s for Wednesday Night ASSC Soccer at NEMP!

The heat is on….in the air and on the field! Wednesday Soccer 8s continues this week at NEMP with some hard fought games, spectacular saves and gripping penalty kicks. Let’s take a closer look:

No Hands! vs Juanito & the Marimba Orquestra. This was almost an awesome comeback while in the first half, No Hands! killed it with three male goals, taking a 3-0 lead going into the half. In the second half, though Juanito & the Marimba Orquestra shut them out and even managed to get an amazing female header about halfway through the half, but No Hands! held on for the final score 3-2! Nice!

Let’s Get Messi vs Win & Tonic. This was a super exciting game first half Let’s Get Messi came out strong, scoring their first goal in just 7 minutes in! Win & Tonic proving that they meant it tied the game back up in the 11th minute of the first half. However shortly before half, Let’s Get Messi scored another male goal to take back the lead, making it 2-1 at half. Second half got really exciting with both teams giving it their all! Let’s Get Messi was ripping amazing shot after shot but could not score after hitting the post a couple of times. Win & Tonic on the other had was finding the back of the net with their shots, tying the game back up just 3 mins into the second half. Then with just 5 mins left, Win & Tonic get a sloppy goal to take the lead for the first time and then another quick goal, giving them a comfortable lead with just minutes left. Win & Tonic almost lost the lead when they fouled a player in the box with no time left, giving Let’s Get Messi a PK and a chance to tie it back up. PK was blocked!! Win & Tonic takes the exciting win at 4-2! Wow!!

Son of a Pitch played Giddy Up in an offensive and defensive battle that ended in a 3-3 tie! After all that…..a tie?! All was not lost when Son of a Pitch handed out some complimentary beers and stayed to watch the rest of the action. Yes!!

Drunk Flamingos might have had one too many brewskies before the game, having a hard time stopping Ballsagna’s fierce attempts on goal. In the end, Drunk Flamingos 2 with Ballsagna 8.

Back That Pass Up showed some tough defense by blanking Beercelona with a 2-0 win.

Giddy Up did just that against Ball and Boujee! This was not much of a game with Giddy Up having their way with Ball and Boujee. They scored, then they scored again and then they scored again……..in the end, the scoreboard read Giddy Up 8 and Ball and Boujee 0. Ouch!

In another close game, TETZHU played Footloose over on field 7. These two teams were closely matched on paper as well as on the field. They had strong females who could shoot and defend. Footloose scored first from an awesome one on one then TETZHU turned around and did the same thing! The rest of the game was pretty much the same with both teams exchanging goals until the final 2 minutes of the game. TETZHU had another breakaway late and made a nifty move on the goalie to win the game 4-3! Great game!!

To wrap things up, the powerful Dream killerz took on Train Wreck over on field 3. Dream killerz had a strong team as well as a very strong bench to stay fresh throughout the game. Train Wreck kept it close with some nice passing and strong scoring attempts. In the end, Dream killerz had the advantage and took the win 6-4. Great game!

After the games, the teams headed over to Little Woodrow’s Tech Ridge for some great food and cold brews. With the steak truck there, and tasty pizza from Little Woodrow’s, there was food and beverages for everyone! Another awesome night of ASSC Soccer 8s!

Headers and footers…..girls and guys…whatever it took for a win at SEMP!

Tuesday night Soccer 8s at SEMP was the place to be if you were looking for some awesome soccer games in south Austin!  Let’s take a look at how it all shook out:

The Centaur Forwards Vs FC Book game was hard fought and pretty friendly for the most part since half the players from each team all play on the same team on Thursdays. The whole game was back and forth with both teams getting some really good passing that lead to some amazing shots on goal. First half though only FC Book scored and it was an amazing female goal just 3 mins in giving them what they thought was a comfortable lead. Second half, however, The Centaur Forwards pressed hard right away and managed to get a male goal in just the first 4 mins. Only one point behind now they started working on getting a female goal to take the lead, and just 5 mins later, they did just that from a shot that somehow managed to get through everyone and roll past the keeper just out of reach giving them the lead. With only 5 mins left in the game, FC Book tied it up from a male goal that took some work since his first shot was deflected and came right back giving him a second chance and allowing them to tie the game up. For the rest of the game both teams fought hard, but were unable to score, leaving the two teams tied 3 ALL.

Another really good game was Fire Emoji Vs Money shots. Both teams were perfectly matched and had to fight just to get a good shot on goal. First half Fire Emoji scored their only goal about half way from an amazing shot, giving them a 1-0 lead at the half. Second half very back and forth and super defensive once again with both teams having to fight to get any kind of chance on goal. With just 3 mins left in the game, Fire Emoji made a defensive mistake that coast them the game allowing a female player on Money shots to get a sloppy, yet successful, shot off, but it was all they needed. Money shots with the money shot at the very end to come back with the 2-1 win. Awesome!

In other action,

Sports Brahs 2 vs Small Hands Big Kicks  0.

MAN CHEST HAIR UNITED 4 vs That Escalated Quickly 1.

2 Goals, 1 Cup 1 vs En Fuego FC 2.

See You Next Tuesday 0 vs The Centaur Forwards 2.

Flooligans vs 1 AT Bad and Boozy 3 .

ABCDE FC vs 3 AT En Fuego FC 4 .

Droos Boos. vs 1 AT The Shins 0.

See You Next Tuesday vs 4 AT Fire Emoji 1.

Shoot It All Over Me vs 4 AT Bad and Boozy 1.

ABCDE FC vs 1 vs The Ball Handlers 1.

Feets of Strength 2 vs The Shins 1.

For happy hour after the games, teams headed over to Craftsman. Most of the players showed up after the last game and had an awesome time enjoying $2 Bud Lights and some tasty tacos. Some of the players even tried their hand at Corn Hole to keep the fun going. Great night of action but an even greater night of camaraderie. See you all again next week!

No Hand Balls Allowed on this Pitch!!

What’s almost as good as Friday?…..Thursday! And, what’s the most awesome thing to do on Thursday nights? Play ASSC soccer 8s at SEMP! Here’s what happened this last week on the pitch:

Best game of the night was Dream Team vs Happy Hour Heroes. Happy Hour Heroes scored the first goal of the game in the 11th minute. Dream Team quickly followed that up with 1 male and then 1 female goal taking them to a 3-1 score going into the half. Just minutes into the second half, Dream Team increased their lead with two more male goals for a 5-1 lead. Happy Hour Heroes didn’t give up for a second though and right before the end of the game they scored an amazing female goal to make the final score 5-3 Dream Team. Great effort!

In other action over on Field 1, The Butt Kickers couldn’t seem to get anything going on either offense or defense. In the corner kickin it took them out easily 9 – 0. Ouch!

Speaking of 9-0, Multiple Scorgasms walloped The Amigos without breaking much of a sweat. They had goals from girls and guys…they had direct and indirect penalty kicks…..they had exciting corner kicks…..they even had a header goal! They had it all but The Amigos kept it all social and promised to be back again next week!

Finally, Pitches Be Crazy took on Spread The Cheeky on Field 2 for the late game. Spread the Cheeky came out firing and scored first off a 1 on 1 breakaway right down the middle! There were some great saves to close out the first half with no more scoring from either side. Spread The Cheeky came out strong again in the first few minutes of the second half, scoring again. Pitches Be Crazy finally got on the board midway through the second half. They had a few more chances on goal but Spread The Cheeky goalie made some fantastic saves. They managed to add a few more goals of their own to take the win 4-1. Nice game!

Post game at Craftsman was a great time with lots of teams hanging out playing Corn Hole, eating tacos and enjoying $2 Ice cold Bud Lights. What a great way to end another great night! Let’s do it all again next week!

Where Can You Find a Pitch Without Any Bases? On The Soccer Field!!

Wednesday night at NEMP there were balls flying, heads bobbing, goalies diving and strikers striking! Here’s how it went down last week:

Win and Tonic Vs Ballsagna. Right off the bat Win and Tonic came out scoring their first goal in the first 60 seconds of the game!  This woke up Ballsagna who had the wind in their favor the first half and while they had tons of good chances, they were unable to score. Ballsagna did however manage to shut out Win and Tonic for the remainder of the half making for a score at half time of 1-0. Second half Ballsagna now fighting the wind while Win and Tonic had the wind in their favor. Win and Tonic scored the first goal of the half once again and it was a really nice female goal that was shot from outside the box. Ballsagna managed to score late on a fast break 1 on 1 against the keeper, making the final score 3-1 Win and Tonic.

Can you say massacre? OMG…….Son of a Pitch had a field day against Footloose 12-2! Ouch!

Footloose had just lost their first game 12-2 and were looking to turn things around. They came out strong during the first half and quickly had their first goal about 8 mins in. Ball and Boujee got a few good chances the first half that were stolen away by the keeper. Second half was just about the same, with Ball and Boujee pressing every chance they got but unable to score. Footloose yet again managed to add another male goal to the board for a final 2-0 score! Nice!

Train Wreck started out strong but faded late giving up 5 goals to Giddy Up while only scoring 2 of their own.

Juanito & The Marimba Orquestra was looking for a little rhythm of their own up against Back That Pass Up, but didn’t manage to get on the board at all. Back That Pass Up 5, Juanito & The Marimba Orquestra 0.

Dream Killerz took out Tetzhu 8-2 while Let’s Get Messi won a close one 4-2 over Drunk Flamingos.

In another lopsided game, No Hands! took it to Beercelone 10-1 before they even broke a sweat! Double ouch!

Back That Pass Up is one of the new indie teams and for week 1, they not only brought beer out to the fields to hangout with their new team, but also managed to make it to the happy hour and keep the party going at Little Woodrow’s Tech Ridge. That’s what ASSC is all about…..being social! We love it and hope to see you again next week!

Saves, Dives, Headers and Shots……That Was Just in the First 60 Seconds of the Night!

Look closely on Tuesday nights at SEMP and you’ll see lots of awesome athletes being social both on and off the pitch!

First game of the night, Money Shots took on Feets of Strength. This game was super close. Money Shots had yet to play while Feets of Strength had just finished a game. This was obvious right from the start with Money shots showing off there speed and team work making Feets of Strength realize it was not going to be an easy match. First half went scoreless due to some amazing saves by both teams’ keepers. Second half went back and forth play with Feets of Strength starting to get worn out allowing Money Shots to get more and more shots on goal. In the end, Feets of Strength came out on top, scoring the only goal of the game with 5 mins left off a fast break one on one with the keeper. Final score 1-0, Feets of Strength.

2 Goals, 1 Cup Vs The Ball Handlers. This game was super exciting. Got off to a slow start the first half with both teams scoring 1 point back to back shortly before the first half. Second half was when things heated up. 2 Goals, 1 Cup scored a male goal almost right away giving them the lead for the first time. Ball Handlers however fallowed up right away with a female goal and then a male goal taking back the lead an increasing it by two points. From here is was back and forth goals every time 2 Goals, 1 Cup would score and get within a point, Ball handlers would score right back. With just 5 mins left 2 Goals, 1 Cup scored one last time and was really looking to take back the lead until out of nowhere, The Ball Handlers had a female rip an amazing shot, making it a 3 point game with under 2 minutes left. Final score 7-4, Ball Handlers.

Here’s how the rest of the action broke down:

FCBook had a strong showing against Small Hands Big Kicks taking the 6-0 win. Great defense!

MAN CHEST HAIR UNITED came up short against Bad and Boozy who also had an awesome defense. Final score: Bad and Boozy 3, MAN CHEST HAIR UNITED 0. Ouch!

See You Next Tuesday also couldn’t seem to put the ball in the net getting creamed 8-0 by Droos Boos. Double ouch!!

This must be the night for awesome defenses because En Fuego FC also blanked their opponent, That Escalated Quickly 2-0. What’s going on around here?!

Feets of Strength was also strong in the net not letting a single shot get through. Yep….another zero on the scoreboard! Feets of Strength 2, Small Hands Big Kicks 0.

It’s definitely Groundhog Day……2 Goals, 2 Cup 2 goals to Flooligans’ 0. What’s happening at SEMP on Tuesday nights?

Wait, could it be…..both teams scored at least 1 goal? Yes!! Unfortunately for Sports Brahs, Droos Boos scored 2 goals. Great game though!

The Ball Handlers took it to That Escalated Quickly by scoring fast and furiously. Final score: 7-0 for The Ball Handlers. Yikes!

OMG….these 2 teams went the entire game without scoring a single goal! It’s either terrific defense or lousy offense……not sure on this one. FC Book 0 and Fire Emoji 0.

Speaking of more zero’s, chalk one up for Sports Brahs who fell to The Centaur Forwards 0-3.

Finally, Money Shots scored early and it stayed that way until the last couple of minutes of the game. Possession went back and forth before money shots made an awesome pass to the center who scored a beautiful shot as the whistle blew. Final score: Money Shots 2, The Shins 0. Nice game!

After the games, everyone was enjoying $2 bud lights at Craftsman, and some delicious tacos. Lots of challenges thrown down for next week so join us at SEMP on Tuesday for some exciting play on the pitch!

Pitches Be Cray Cray at Soccer on Thursday-day

Week One

Welcome back to another super fun and super social season of Austin Sports and Social Club soccer down at Southeast Metro Park! Week one was filled with a couple blowouts and some game-changing surprises that nobody saw coming! If week one was any indication as to what is to come this season, we are all in for a wild one!

Game(s) of the Night: Shout Out to the Ladies!

Spread the Cheeky vs Multiple Scoregasms

The first half of this game was dominated by Multiple Scoregasms, offensively. They had total control of the ball and had most shots on goal. In fact, the only goal scored in the first half was by Multiple Scoregasms, who managed to get a powerful shot off the far post making for a score of 1-0 at the half.

Things continued heating up in the second half as Multiple Scoregasms were at it again, scoring almost right away with a shot that just slipped out of the keeper’s hands and into the net!

With the score now at 2-0, Spread the Cheeky was looking for a come back. No worries, though, the ladies have got this! Shortly after Multiple Scoregasms scored their second goal, the ladies of Spread the Cheeky had some girl-on-girl action passing the ball up the field, and hammered a shot into the goal, tying the game up 2-2!

Time continued to tick away, and it was a defensive battle on the field, but shortly before the end of game, the ladies of Spread the Cheeky scored yet ANOTHER goal! The crowd went wild and the team went crazy having made a tremendous comeback in a hard-fought second half! Final score: 4-2, Spread the Cheeky!

Pitches Be Crazy vs The Butt Kickers

It was a slow first half, score-wise, between Pitches Be Crazy and The Butt Kickers. It wasn’t for their lack of trying as they both had a ton of shots on goal. If you keep shooting, one is bound to end up in the net, right? At this point in the game, it was a race to see if anybody could get a shot off before the end of the half, and the lucky winners were Pitches Be Crazy with one goal, 1-0.

Continuing on their momentum from the first half, Pitches Be Crazy scored two more goals, now making their lead, 3-0.  True to their name, The Butt Kickers decided it was time step up and start kicking some butt! They scored one male goal followed by a female goal to tie the game up with just five minutes left!

Again, time was of the essence, and it was another race to the “finish line” between the two teams. Pitches Be Crazy, regretting sitting back on their heals with that 3-0 score, now had to get it in gear! Those Pitches pressed hard and looked to one of their females to get a solid kick off before the time wound down to zero. Leave it to the ladies to get business taken care of! The shot was good, and Pitches Be Crazy was able to take back the lead and end the game with a final score of 5-3!

No Rain Means NEMP Soccer!

Week Six

The rain gave us a break this past Wednesday, and everybody was eager to hit the fields for some good old-fashioned Austin Sports and Social soccer! This past Wednesday was week six, which means playoffs are just a hop, skip, and a jump away…weather permitting, of course! Keep on reading to see how a couple of teams made out this past week to earn the “Game of the Night” title, more scores, and which teams are going to the playoffs!

Game of the Night

Wide Open and Ready vs Win & Tonic

In the first half of this epic battle, Win & Tonic dominated the field, scoring 3 male goals, leaving team Wide Open and Ready not so-ready… The first half was heavily one-sided and was looking like Win & Tonic would be handing their opponent a shut out, 3-0 at the half.

The second half, however, brought out a determined Wide Open and Ready who came back onto the field with cleats blazing! They managed to chip away at the scoreboard and got within one goal of tying up the game.

Win & Tonic, now dangerously close to losing their lead, pressed hard and managed to get a female goal in the net to give their team two more points on the board, and once again pulling their lead up by 3!

Wide Open and Ready remained close on Win & Tonic’s heals, though, and managed to score a female goal of their own. Unfortunately for them, the clock was not on their side and time expired before Wide Open and Ready could try to steal the win.  Final score:  5-4, Win and Tonic!

How Do You Spell Soccer? S-O-C-I-A-L

Week Five

We’re getting close to the end of another super fun season of soccer up north, and week five was nothing short of exciting! There’s one more week before playoffs, and with the teams pretty much set in ranking, there’s nothing left to do but have a great time, socialize, and keep the party rolling at Little Woodrow’s afterwards with some $8 dollar pitchers of Bud Light and a great selection of food from the food trucks!

Let’s Get Messi vs Ball and Boujee

This was a very fun, super social game with killer passing from both teams.

In the first half, Ball and Boujee took the lead by scoring the first goal of the night. Let’s Get Messi was quick to follow suit and tie the game up for a score at the half, 1-1.

The cheering section for Let’s Get Messi stole the show in the second half as they chanted, “S-O-C-I-A-L! What’s that spell? SOCIAL!” I’d like to believe that the cheering is what gave Messi the edge to score their next 2 goals within 5 minutes of each other, giving them enough of a lead to set back and play defense the rest of the match. Let’s Get Messi and their fans went home with the win, 3-1!

Giddy Up Vs Footloose

This game started off looking very one-sided with Footloose dominating the first half, scoring 5 male goals, most of which were from amazing 20-30 yard shots! Giddy Up was having trouble “giddying up,” adjusting to the wet conditions, and just really didn’t have a chance to score.

In the second half, though, Giddy Up finally got the giddy up and was able to get some points on the board with a female touch! Two points for Giddy Up puts the score at 5-2, Footloose. Giddy Up still had some more in them and made an amazing Sports Center Top 10 Play goal! A guy around midfield crossed the ball up to one of his female players on the far side, a good 30-yard pass, who one-touched it straight out of mid-air, about another 30 yards out from the goal. The keeper is thrown off, not expecting a shot from a first touch, and the ball sailed clear over him, landing perfectly in the goal making it a one point game!

With just minutes left, we’ve got a close game on our hands! Both teams really start putting the pressure on each other, but Footloose managed to knock one more in, making the final score, 6-4!

Rainy Playoffs Means Messi Champs!

Alright! Alright! Alright! Thursday playoffs were nothing short of wet and wild! The night started off with a good little downpour that came out of nowhere shortly before kickoff that had everyone running for the trees and others for their cars! Thankfully, the rain passed almost as quickly as it came, and although the fields were wet and slick, all of the games went super smooth!

Championship Game

Little Giants vs Let’s Get Messi

The championship game came down to experience. With wet field conditions making it hard to control the ball and get any type of a good pass or cross off, Lets Get Messi, being the older more experienced team, had fewer problems with the wet field conditions. The veteran team showed off their experience right from the start by scoring the only goal during the first 5 minutes in the first half! Little Giants never gave up and fought hard throughout the entire first half, but were unable to score, sending most of their shots wide. Score at half was 1-0 in favor of Let’s Get Messi.

In the second half, Little Giants were able to keep the ball on their attacking half most of the time and were able to make more shots on goal, but Let’s Get Messi was quick to take up a defensive edge for the second half and focused on playing tight D on Little Giants’ females to prevent any 2-point goals. Little Giants played right into Let’s Get Messi’s hands, having tons of male goal chances but not taking any looks for the two points a female goal would give them. Let’s Get Messi managed to score one more goal with about five minutes left in the second half, and shut out the Little Giants.

Let’s Get Messi  became the new champions with a final score of 2-0!

Everyone Needs a Happy Hour Hero in their Life

Spread the Cheeky vs. Happy Hour Heroes

These two teams just played one another last week and were excited about a rematch before the game even started.  Last week Spread the Cheeky won 4-0 after Happy Hour Heroes had just come off of their first game in their double header for the night. This week, it was Spread the Cheeky’s turn for a double header.

First half went really well for both teams. Happy Hour Heroes kept the ball in their attacking half most of the half and were able to get lots of good shots on goal. Only one of them paid off, though, and it was a beautiful goal no matter how you count it! Happy Hour Heroes scored on a beautiful corner kick from a female to a male on the far post with a header! It was so close to almost being kicked directly in from the corner that an instant replay would be needed to decide who actually scored: the female kicker or the guy finishing the ball on the far post.

The officials ruled that Happy Hour Heroes’ guy made contact with the ball before it crossed the end line counting the goal as one.

Shortly before the end of half, Spread the Cheeky was looking to make moves to tie up the score. Down by one, Spread the Cheeky had a perfect one-on-one with the keeper: The attacking player pulls off some crazy move with a back heal to the ball as his shot! Not only did that shot beat the keeper, but it was loaded with tons of power and looked like an amazing Sports Center Top 10 Play…until the post got in the way!!!

You can only imagine Spread the Cheeky’s disappointment and Happy Hour Heroes’ relief!

First half ends with a 1-0 score in favor of Happy Hour Heroes.

Second half, Spread the Cheeky now has what little wind is left and are looking to make something happen. After already playing a game and having to fight the wind the whole first half, Cheeky just couldn’t gather enough energy to do what it takes and were unable to find the back of the net all game, despite hitting the post 4 or 5 times, and having some really amazing shots blocked by the keeper, they just couldn’t score. Second half for Happy Hour Heroes was all about keeping Cheeky away from their goal as much as possible. The Heroes did manage to get some really good shots on goal, but Cheeky’s keeper was all over the place doing all he could for his team, even trying to run down the sideline to get a cross off!

In the end the only goal scored was off a corner, and without a replay, who really knows if it was one or two points? But it makes no difference, Happy Hour Heroes win and go home the heroes!
